Southend University Hospital’s Neptune Unit got a pre-Christmas boost.

Site Manager Rob Widdowson from the Brennan Group, is pictured handing over the cheque to play specialist Jacqui Keeble.

On hand to watch the event are patients Heather Braithwaithe, nine, and 13-week-old Sienna More, both from Benfleet. Also present from left to right are staff nurse Emma Knight and Yvonne Curtis, play specialist.

The money will be used to buy toys and craft materials for youngsters throughout the year.

“We wanted to say thank you to the hospital for any disruption we have caused while the work goes on,” explained Rob. “It will be worth it in the end, but we are very grateful for the forbearance of staff, visitors and patients alike.”

Improvements are still taking place within the main tower block outpatients area, which has lead to the decanting of many clinics to other parts of the hospital.
